Good Empire's mission is to gather, unite, and empower an empire of good humans to help save the f**king world.
The way we treat our planet is not sustainable. People all around the world know this, and want to change our trajectory. And yet, most of us don’t actively do anything about it. The major hurdles: There are so many different global issues to focus on, people don’t know where to start. There is inertia in getting out of existing habits. People need a push. People don’t believe that they as individuals can make a difference to the world.
As part of the design solution, we worked closely for 3 months with strategy consultant Octalysis, the world’s leading human behavior design and gamification agency to build out “the system”, a global impact loyalty program that can essentially become an impact rating for every human and organisation on the planet, and reward them for the impact they have.
I led the UX and UI design of two-phase app launch:
1. V0 Alpha
The initial version that would make it into the hands of our early adopters, and test the hypothesis that a gamified approach would inspire people to take action. The solution's focus was to get into the hands of users quickly, to start joining challenges and posting actions. This was to be built and shipped within 3 months.
2. V1 MVP
The MVP would deliver the basic feature set of: Challenges, Actions, Impact Dashboard, Ripple Exploration. This design would incorporate more implicit and explicit gamification techniques.
The results so far...
8,500 pre-registered “Catalysts” so far from 34 countries around the world have now downloaded the V0 app and gotten started on the first challenges. A paid pilot program for 100 organisations from around the globe have also pledged to take part from September 2022.
The power of a slick prototype
Good Empire used crowdfunding site Birchal to inspire over a thousand like-minded investors to take action of their own. So far, the startup has raised over $1 million, purely using the prototype for demostration.
